Marriage can be such a wonderful part of this life. The way God can bring two people together so that they mesh and become one, can make life so fulfilling. Notice I said “the way God can bring two people together”? Sadly, sometimes people do not wait on God and problems result. Thankfully, God can bring good even from struggling marriages or divorces. If we desire our children to find the one God has created for them, and them for the other person, then it is a great idea to start praying for this even before our children begin looking for a mate. And when our children have already made all sorts of mistakes, we must help them know that God’s Forgiveness is cleansing and can help them start anew with the right person.
Here is a select example of the strong prayer Mr Banks encourages us to lift towards God. This one is from Day 55 called “Of God’s Choosing”:
“You know exactly the right person to make the ideal spouse for her—not just for earthly reasons, but for heavenly ones…. I pray that You will lead my daughter to a man who will be a blessing to her soul. Wherever he is right now, I ask that You bless him and prepare them both for one another…. Lord Jesus, let him love my daughter with a sacrificial love that You alone can give, just as You loved the church and gave Yourself up for her (Ephesians 5:25)…. I ask that Your ‘perfect love’ (1John 4:18) will be at work in them so that they will both honor You above themselves, and their marriage will stand the test of time.… Bring them to the place where they can say together with all their hearts, ‘As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord’ (Joshua 24:15)…. Father, I’d also like to ask You that You bless them with children who will walk with You so that ‘from generation to generation we will recount Your praise’ (Psalm 79:13). I praise You in this moment for Your kindness and faithfulness to answer this prayer, not only today, but in the years to come!” (pp109-110)
The two becoming one, just like we become one with God. It is a beautiful and holy union. Let’s pray this over our youth.
