The Transition

When talking about how God is Everlasting, and from Everlasting, Mr Lucado says, “He does not live sequential moments, laid out on a time line, one following the other. His world is one moment or, better stated, momentless.” (p52) The closest I have ever come to this is when I think about my daughter’s life sometimes. I can have a vision of the moment she was born and the moment she passed away all in one frame in my mind…but even this is a poor example. God sees the end before the beginning even starts for you and me…again, this should bring us peace. Since God already knows the result, He will help us do whatever we must do to get us to those results. But it is not like God is working backwards, from the future to the present, that too would limit God. He just knows it all, has already seen it all, and desires for us to trust Him through it all. And God also desires us to begin to think in terms of eternity too. For those of us who are sincerely born again, there will be no end for us. Yes, we will transition from this world to the next, but then? Then we will have life, the Abundant, Eternal Life, unending, forevermore.

If we really think about this topic of being eternal, we have to admit that we all crave it, don’t we? Look at the multi-billion dollar industry of cosmetics, surgical techniques and fitness facilities, where people are trying to capture their youth by looking years younger! We want to live forever…but this too is a gift from God. “He has also set eternity in the human heart” (see Ecc 3:11) There is something in us, that God placed in us, that tells us we should exist forever. But living forever is a different thing. The Bible teaches there is only one way to have everlasting Life…but everyone will exist somewhere forever. Question is: where we will choose that eternity to be?

Both the Old and New Testaments talk about this reality. Daniel 12:2 says, “Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.” (Dan 12:2) Then there is Matthew 25:46 where Jesus Himself says, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” (Mt 25:46) While we will never be God who IS Eternity, we can become like Him and live forevermore…and by God’s Grace, we can begin that journey here! Please connect with me if you are not secure in your own eternity and let me help you make the transition.
