Why do we try to complicate the way to Heaven?
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Jn 14:6 NIV
You and I are NOT the way. I know this because I cannot pay for my own sins, much less yours. If my way was the right way, then everyone should be following me…oh but wait, I have only been in this world for 55 years, so what about those before me and after me? Jesus is The Way because Jesus existed before Time began and will continue to exist into Eternity. God planned our redemption even before we knew we needed it.
The Bible says from the beginning of Time, God already planned to glorify Jesus as our Savior. (see Jn 17:24) And this just makes sense since God is Omniscient. This means He knows it all, before it happens. God knew we would disobey Him. God knew we could not follow the Ten Commandments. So God also knew He would have to sacrifice His one and only Begotten Son by living the perfect Life of obedience here, then take on all our sin debt and pay the price on our behalf. (see Ro 6:23)
God knows our childish human nature…but He also loves us beyond our understanding! Praise God! And so, just like He gave Adam and Eve only ONE command of what NOT to do, now God generously gives us only One Way of what we must do. It’s our choice though…that’s Love!
