As I said several weeks ago, when we have given God a willing heart to follow Him, we cannot forget that open mind because, with God, we often have to think outside the box. The way we would do things and the way He does them are usually very different. So when the Holy Spirit moves you to DO something to help your surroundings, that open mind is vital.
Let me give you a strange, yet powerful example: when Beckie was diagnosed with brain cancer, after several surgeries, she was to begin both chemo and radiation therapy at a hospital that was an hour away from our home. By God’s Grace, the hospital had apartments across the street that they lent to caregivers of very ill patients, and we were able to get one. Sadly, after only a few treatments, Beckie fell into what would be her first coma, so it was such a blessing to have this place where we could be near her without having to travel back and forth.
My husband, Joe, worked during the day, and I spent practically the whole time by Beckie’s bedside, but when he would finish his hours, he would come to the hospital and relieve me, so I could get a couple of hours of sleep at the apartment. About 1am, Joe would come to the room, so we could trade places for him to rest before going back to work in the morning. Half asleep, I would leave the apartment, cross the street, walk along a concrete pathway through some grassy area, up a flight of stairs and into the cafeteria, then I would make my way to her room. This was before security tightened up, obviously. So for several weeks, every night this would be my routine, until I noticed something I had not seen before, and I sensed the Holy Spirit tell me to do something about it…
