Surrender. I want us all to hold on to this freeing word this week…and beyond. If you did not watch my videos about my Faith crisis, my goodness I hope you will. (links are below, please watch them in sequence to get the whole story) I am still in the process of allowing God’s loving words to heal my heart, to help me live this new level of the Abundant Life, and it is a struggle as I confessed the other day. But when I surrender to Him? When I choose to believe Who He says I am? Even when nothing changes… everything changes. How? My perspective changes. I remember God loves me. I remember God is always with me, guiding my steps as I submit to Him. And I sense His Presence in my life, which helps me continue to pray, “Lord, I know You can, and I trust Your Will!”
God often shows me things in “three’s,” and while they kind of mean similar things, here are three words that grant us more of this Abundant Life: surrender, submit and obey. We surrender our hearts, that is our spirits, by remembering we are God’s beloved, holy children now. We submit our mind, emotions and will, that is our soul, by remembering, because God loves us, He wants what is best for us. Then we obey with the words we speak and actions we take, as well as by our outward appearance, that is our body, by bearing the Fruit of the Spirit, that we talked about last month. (see Gal 5:22-23)
Surrender our spirit. Submit our soul. And obey with our body. All of who we are, we voluntarily place under the control of the Holy Spirit. And then? Then we not only have Life within us, but we can enjoy and share this New Life too. Let’s talk a little bit more about these three words tomorrow, but I hope you will think about them today.
