Since we were talking about training yesterday, let’s dip into the awesome Book of Proverbs this week and continue with that idea. This is Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Pr 22:6 ESV
Train up a child. This is what God is doing within each born again believer. And just as with human children, some grow quicker than others. This doesn’t mean one is better than the next, God loves us all the same. It is not what you and I DO that causes God to love us. We are loved simply because God IS Love and so He chooses to Love us according to His Nature.
It is true that God loves everyone, but it is also true that He might not like everything we do. After all, which human parent likes it when our own children misbehave and disobey us, right? We love our children always, but like them? Hmmm. We are doing our children a GREAT disservice if we do not teach them the difference between these two. If we allow them to do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want, even if it goes against our rules, because we say we love them, we are causing them harm instead of good…and that is not loving them at all! And this is why God must train us, so we know the difference between what is acceptable and what is most certainly not. This is all part of Sanctification.
