Hear this great reality from God to His children:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1Pe 5:7 NIV
So what is required from us, so this verse can be powerful in our lives? We are going to look at three different areas this week. Requirement number 1 is simply that we are aware we are anxious in the first place. Paying attention to what we are thinking and how those thoughts affect our emotions and body, must come before we can cast those anxieties on Him, right? I mean if I don’t even know that I am trying to carry the burden of some kind of worry, how can I let it go and trust God with it? I know this sound like common sense, but the problem is our “anxieties” are often masked. We might not realize why we feel agitated, or why we feel so tired or why we cannot seem to sleep at night. We think it must be some kind of physical illness we are experiencing and we miss the freedom this verse offers.
For instance, a couple of years ago, I was suffering from horrible muscle weakness, troubling brain fog and such intense fatigue that no amount of sleep helped. I went to doctor after doctor. I did test after test. And for months, no one seemed to find anything… until we collectively finally figured out one of my issues was anxiety. I’ve shared this before, I changed my eating habits and began casting all my concerns on God, and miraculously, I was “cured.” The spiritual anxiety had resulted in physical symptoms, as it often does, but it was only when I became aware of the underlying issue, that I was able to work with God’s prescription above. And now if I start to sense it again, I am quicker to be aware and be freed from it.…and with no shame too…more on that tomorrow…
