In chapter 3 called, “O Sweet Exchange,” Mr Lucado points us to the big contrast between our sin-less Savior and us sin-full humans. He reminds us of the pure holiness of Jesus, as he says “Jesus ‘knew no sin’ (2Co 5:21). Of equal ranking with Jesus’ water walking, dead raising, and leper healing is this sequoia-high truth: he never sinned. It’s not that Jesus could not sin but that he did not sin.” (p33) Because Jesus always chose to obey the Father, Jesus had no relationship with sin. Sin never influenced Him. Sin never had any power over Him. Sin never overcame or mastered Him. You and I cannot say the same and it is ok to admit it. We all have our own crosses to bear. No guilt here remember? (Ro 8:1) But if we do not admit our problem, how can Grace come and wash it away?
Listen to this wise author: “One of the most stinging indictments of humanity is found in Isaiah 53:6: ‘We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way’ (NIV) Your way may be intoxication, my way may be accumulation, another person’s, way may be sensual stimulation or religious self-promotion, but every person has tried to go his or her way without God. It is not that some of us have rebelled. We all have.” (p35) It is only knowing the truth, or in this case confessing the truth, that sets us free. Sin is our problem. Grace is God’s solution.
