The Bible tells us that we have the mind of Christ. (1Co 2:16) Now whether we use it or not is a whole other story! It is only the Holy Spirit that can develop this mind within us, helping us to think like Jesus thought. But even as He continues to grow us up, having the mind of Christ means we can, at least, begin to understand the way God thinks. We can certainly understand His motives behind every thought. It is simply Love. Our problem is we only see part of the story. Sometimes we think that God is not listening to our prayers, or worse, ignoring them because He just doesn’t care. But if we could see what He does, if we could see what is coming down the line, then it would be easier to trust Him. That what He is doing, or allowing, is because He Loves us. But then again, if we could already see it, where would the need for Faith be, right?
It is the oil of the Holy Spirit, this anointing over our head, or rather our minds, that helps us walk by Faith. Only His anointing power can help us respond, instead of react, to every aggravation of life. Only His real Presence in us can help us act more and more like the children of God that we are, so we may show this fallen world who He is. It fills us with peace and it glorifies God when we seek and live with this amazing “oil” upon our minds. Mr Keller agrees as he says, “When people or circumstances or events beyond our control tend to ‘bug’ us, it is possible to be content and serene when these ‘outside’ forces are counteracted by the presence of God’s Spirit.” (p141) You see, with God’s Spirit, we begin to live life from the inside out. The source of all our thoughts, words and deeds stems from this union, instead of just from our own fallen minds. We learn to listen for God’s Voice within, and then trusting Him, we will act more and more like Jesus did, selflessly obeying the Father for the good of everyone involved.
