Our story begins with realizing what God did for us. Listen:
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1Jn 3:1 NIV
As I did some research about this verse, to know it more deeply for myself, as well as to share it with you, my Friends, I came across a commentary that helped me look at this verse from a different angle. It is easy to read this and make it center on MMI because God is lavishing His Great Love on us, but again, God is first, and so, when we study any verse we should connect with Him to see Scripture through His viewpoint before we make it all about us.
Today let’s focus on what God did for us, not so much what He gave us. You see, it is only the greatness of His Love that makes it possible for us to be His children. Yes, the gift of His Love is amazing. The fact that we can become His children is incredible. But the depth of the Love that made all that possible is overwhelming.
Think about the price God paid. Think about the sacrifice Jesus made. Think about the selfless service the Holy Spirit provides. All this because of one thing: His great Love. None of us deserve it. None of us can earn it. Many of us weren’t even looking for it. Yet there it is, the great Love of God that He lavishes upon us. This great love should cause an effect, shouldn’t it? It should move us to surrender everything to Him, shouldn’t it? It should inspire a desire to tell others about it, shouldn’t it? The more we begin to grasp this great Love, the more nothing else should matter but this great Love. Let’s ponder that today…and give thanks!
