I heard someone say once that, after we surrender our lives to Jesus as Savior, our struggle to follow Christ is like having two wolves living on the inside of us. If we choose to feed the first wolf, he will get stronger and the second one will get weaker. But if we choose to feed the second one, then the first will get weaker. Once again, this is the North OR South idea. Either we choose, more and more, to follow God’s way or we continue to choose our own way. Every time we choose one OR the other, we are feeding either Faith OR fear, Life OR death.
This is the struggle we face with sin. While WE are dead to sin, sin itself is not yet gone from this world, and so, it continues to call out to us, trying to control our thoughts, emotions and desires like it did before we became New in Christ.
Yet it is exactly because we are NEW, that we now can choose to follow Christ instead of our old fallen, MMI nature. This is why transformation into the image of Jesus is so vital for us to be able to choose Life, more and more. We cannot follow His Holy Will and our MMI desires at the same time…unless we continue to grow so that, what He Wills, becomes what we want also. Then we will “feed” our Faith and walk in it more and more.
(MMI = the fallen “Me, Myself and I” mentality, where our decisions are based on selfish Pride)
