Hi Friends,
God has given us each a mind with which He desires for us to think for ourselves. He will never force us to believe one way or the other, but hopes that we will turn to Him, trust in Him and align ourselves with His Righteous Way. But you and I must choose. Listen to one of my favorite Old Testament verses:
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live” Dt 30:19 NIV
Choose Life. As I often teach, with every decision we make, we get to choose between life and death. These decisions we make have consequences that effect every part of our being: spirit, soul and body. While we cannot separate any of our being from the other because they are all integrated, with one flowing into and out of the next and so on, for the next month or two, I’m going to focus our talks on our physical bodies. For instance here’s one we should all know, every time we choose to eat junk food, we are choosing death, not life. I’m not trying to make anyone feel guilty here, because Lord knows I still make that poor choice way too often. But I want us to be clear, the way we eat and drink will either improve our health, enhancing our life, or deteriorate our bodies, leaving us with challenging conditions. But here’s the HOPE, as this awesome verse above says, WE get to choose which way we will experience our existence here: filled with vigor and life or being lethargic and feeling lousy.
Before we go any further, here is my “disclaimer”: I am NOT a physician…but I am a pharmacist by trade. Throughout my schooling and beyond, I have always been, and continue to be, fascinated with biology. The way God created our anatomy is truly breathtaking, more on that next week. Whatever I share with you here is for your information only. I hope to stir your interest and inspire your desire to do your own research. Doctors are wonderful, but they are NOT God. They do not know everything, and sadly, they are inundated with so many patients that, they cannot possibly have each one of us be their number one priority. We- you and I- are supposed to be an integral member of our healthcare team. After all, “you” are with “you” all the time! It is not the responsibility of any medical professional to KEEP us healthy. They are supposed to share their knowledge, insights and experiences with us, but WE are supposed to take care of this amazing body that God has granted us. So of course, seek medical counsel, but please, be informed.
When we make godly choices, we are blessed. When we make self-indulgent choices, we feel cursed. This is part of what that great verse above is teaching us. So here’s another disclaimer: NO GUILT!!! Another one of my favorite verses is Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”. The next couple of weeks, we are going to walk through some of the hope-filled, scientific backed information that I have been researching for the last three or four years. I will give you practical ways to apply these “life choices” to your lives. I am still on this journey towards getting healthier and more energetic myself, but it is my hope, as I work with God to implement these “life choices” in my own life, that I can inspire others to join me. Remember, seek your doctors advise always, but be informed!
Until we meet again, keep lifting your eyes to God, He’s closer than you think.
<>< Peace, Diane
