I will gladly help you with your burdens, but I will not help you carry your loads. Think about the words enabling and empowering here.
Enabling someone is with the intent of helping them, but it actually leads to more problems rather than solutions. When we try to do what others should be responsible to do for themselves, we actually TAKE away their power to improve themselves, to be motivated, to be productive, to have a sense of self-worth.
Enabling is like being a doormat, and we who enable, only end up getting bitter and frustrated when, in all honesty, it’s our own fault. No guilt here, my Friends! (Ro 8:1) But we have to understand what we are doing or we will only cause harm instead of the good we intend.
As we said last week, while we cannot control what others choose to do, or not to do, we CAN and MUST control our own choices. Understanding the difference between enabling and empowering is a start to bring about real good…more tomorrow on burdens…
Have a very Blessed Thanksgiving Day (and life ?)!
