Again check out my disclaimer below…
We will spend the rest of the week talking about something I am very passionate about and that’s our Microbiome and Antacids, more specifically a class of meds known as Proton Pump Inhibitors, or PPI’s for short.
More than 15 million people in the USA alone take the RX known as PPI’s, but now many of them are OTC, so who knows what that number really is?! The problem with this class of medications is that they work…TOO well! They lower the acid in our stomachs by 90-95%…on the surface, you may think, “Wow that’s great, Diane,” but let me remind you, God created our stomachs to have that much acid! So what are we doing when we almost eliminate all of it? We are causing problems.
First: these products serve as a band aid to the problem, they do not fix the problem. Remember what I said the other day: if we are in crisis, then we should use medications, but then we have to find and fix the root cause, so we can get off these meds. If you actually read the literature, it clearly says, these meds are to be used for a maximum of 4 to 8 weeks. The whole point to RX’s is timely & proper supervision by a doctor, but the problem is, most patients are never reassessed, never taught how to change their lifestyle so they don’t need these PPI’s, and they end up on these for years and years…and some even for life! And I am only talking about the people on the RX, what about those who self-prescribe by buying the OTC versions, with NO supervision?! Can you imagine the damaging effects these products are having on all their Microbiome, and subsequently on the rest of their health too? More tomorrow…
<>< Peace, Diane
DISCLAIMER:
I remind you all that I am NOT a doctor…but I am a pharmacist and so, medicines are kind of my forte. But I am not here to diagnose anything, and I am certainly not here to tell you to stop taking your prescriptions…actually the total opposite, hear me: DO NOT STOP your medications without consulting your doctor…but if your doctor is not interested in helping you get off your medications, then perhaps it is time to find another doctor.
