Have you ever felt anguish, where your whole spirit, soul and body are in such pain and torment that you think you are about to die? Jesus understands, listen:
“About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’).”
Mt 27:46 NIV
Forsaken. In the Bible, God promises in both the Old Testament and New, that He will never leave us nor forsake us, and this is the reason why He grants us this mighty promise. Jesus was abandoned because of our sin. Jesus was the substitute for all the wrong in the world- past, present and future. I do not share these things to make us feel bad. That will not bring us closer to Jesus and living out this free gift of Salvation. But it is a good reminder of how deep the Father’s love truly goes. How high the Sacrifice of the Son rises. And how close the Presence of the Holy Spirit is within us. We will never be forsaken because Jesus took our place, paid our debt and desires to be with us forevermore. How can we not fall to our knees and humbly seek and follow Him? Let’s choose to do so to a deeper level today.
