Hey Friends, Diane here…
Let’s go to the wonderful Book of Proverbs this week to delve deeper into this topic of the difference between our WHO and our DO. So WHO we are is our Identity. What we DO is our behavior. There can be a ginormous difference in our Identity and our behavior, but way too often we confuse them as being one and the same.
Apart from Christ, our Identity is a sinner. Because this is WHO we are before becoming born again, our behavior displays this reality, because we have no other option. Sinners, sin. Because that is WHO they are, that is what they DO.
Once we sincerely surrender to Jesus, however, He changes our WHO. Our New “name,” or New Identity, is now saint. Yet a saint still sins…so what’s the real difference then? The difference is our heart. Surrendered to Jesus as Savior and Lord, a saint is a child who desires to love God, but is still growing, learning, maturing, and yes, sinning because we are not going to get it all right, all the time.
We are still battling with our old self-identity. We have not yet begun to grasp the fact that we are NEW and so we continue to act like the OLD, MMI person. And that old serpent the devil does all he can to keep us in the dark about this beautiful truth. If he can convince us we are still a sinner, then we will continue to sin. This is one of the reasons why knowing WHO we are in Christ is vital, because that is when our DO begins to be transformed. Here is our “verse to remember” for the week, listen to this wisdom found in Proverbs 4 verse 23:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Pr 4:23 NIV
If we do not know WHO we are, then what we DO will reflect this lack of knowledge. Let’s dive in deep this week…because this can be a complete game changer for the quality of our lives, as well as for those around us.
