Believe means so much more than just saying you believe, listen:
“You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder.” Jas 2:19 NIV
Jesus as our Lord. If we say we believe Jesus has saved us and given us Eternal Life, then where’s the proof? It is only as we allow Him to be our Lord that the evidence begins to seep out of us and is displayed for everyone to see. Remember Php 2:12? As we work out our Salvation, we will begin to make choices based on the fact that Jesus is ruling over our hearts, minds and actions, more and more. What does this look like? BEFORE we make any decisions and step out to do anything, we must consult the Holy Spirit. He will help us discern, that means tell the difference between what is right to do and what is not. He will guide us to only make choices that God desires us to make. And as we allow Jesus to be our Lord, more and more, we will actually follow those choices and be in God’s Holy Will, like Jesus always is.
Discerning if it is God’s Will or not. This is not as difficult as people want to make it. If the choice is self-centered and does not honor God, then it is a wrong choice. The issue is not that we do not know what God’s Will is, but rather that we do not want what God Wills! And why? Because it does not cater to our old, MMI person we used to be. It does not center around ME, but focuses on Love for God and others…and to be honest, it is the only way to genuinely love ourselves too.
The more Jesus is our Lord, the more we will see the goodness of God’s desires over our own. Have you ever said to yourself, “Wow, I am glad I did not do such and such because that would have been a disaster!” Or maybe like me, you have said, “Oh why did I do that! I regret that choice so much!” Well, this is what I am talking about! The more Jesus is our Lord, the more we will live like He did, surrendered to God instead of wanting our own way.
