Caught In the Act

Mr Banks gives us a beautiful story of his own mother and her incredible gift of Faith. He says, “During the great depression when her father died young and through the second world war and the Korean War when dad was frequently in harms way, Mom held on to faith, and God held onto her.” (p61) He goes on to explain about a wonderful seed that bloomed right when she needed it, and it did so because sowing good seeds was simply the way she lived her life. It is a wonderful example for every Christian, and especially for us parents of prodigals.

Mr Banks then rightly says, “Faith must be caught as well as taught.” (p61) In other words, we too must live out our Faith in front of our children. They will listen to our words to a point, but if what we do does not match what we say, they will stop listening and form their own opinions, ideas and ways. The truth is exactly as this quote says, “People may doubt what you say but they will believe what you do.”

This is yet another issue we must bring to God in prayer. A simple prayer like: “Lord, help me to live a life that shows how much I trust You in every situation. Please help me live a life displaying the peace and joy which reflects my belief that You have all things under control. Amen.” If we sincerely believe, then we will act like we believe.
