A good night’s rest not only cleanses our brain, but helps us think more clearly too. I love how Dr Charles Stanley teaches that we should never make any important decisions when we are HALT: Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. So we need to “halt” when we are experiencing any of these. But this should be common sense, we just cannot make good decisions when we are tired. So making sure we are sleeping well is so important if we want to avoid bad choices.
This is very true when it comes to our nutrition. We just don’t make good food choices when we are tired. We tend to want to go for the unhealthy versions filled with sugar and carbs and bad fats. Obviously, these choices can quickly lead to becoming overweight. But it is interesting that our conscious decisions are not the only factor in becoming overweight.
You see, good sleep helps regulate the hormones involved with hunger. So sometimes it is not only poor decisions that lead to unhealthy weight gain, but we are overeating and we are not even sure why. If this becomes a chronic problem, it can lead to other health issues…we will talk more about that tomorrow.
Today I want to stress how sleep needs to become a priority for our optimal health. The more we make good nutritional choices, the healthier we can be…and sleep can play a big part in this.
