Covering Our Children

During this time of the year, as children everywhere have returned, or are returning to school and parents return to a more steady routine, I would like to spend this month discussing how vital covering our children in prayer can really be. Whether you personally have children or not, we can all pray for our youth, so there is much all of us can learn from this new entry in our “Book Club.” It is called “Prayers for the Prodigals- 90 Days of Prayer for Your Child” written by James Banks. I have the digital copy so excuse me for the lack luster cover, but I like having this book on my devices because I can open it at any time, wherever I happen to be, and lift up my son, my nieces, my nephews or any other child to our Lord, trusting Him to watch over them and lead them towards His Holy Will. As the Bible says, when we pray according to God’s Will, He hears us and will either resolve the situation or give us peace to keep moving forward in the meantime. (see 1Jn 5:14-15) This is one of the things that I love about this book, the prayers Mr Banks writes out for us to lift up to God, uses Scripture.

Just a little information about our author, Dr James Banks is a pastor of the church he founded in North Carolina called Peace Church, as well as a frequent contributor to Our Daily Bread. If you are not familiar with that ministry, their daily devotionals offer much insight and encouragement to help us walk this Christian Life. They also have many other resources to aid in our studies and walk. I will put a link below to both Mr Banks’ and Our Daily Bread’s websites for you to check out. Again both are an excellent resource to help us know God more deeply and follow Him more closely. Please note that some prayers are written in the masculine form and some in the feminine, so just change the pronouns depending on what child you are paying for. I will get more into the power of Mr Banks’ book tomorrow…
