As we pursue this habit of Excellence, the simplest way to do so is by giving God your whole heart. This means doing all we can to connect with Him, to meditate on His Word and to act in ways that would honor Him, all day long. The reason why we must connect first, is because we need His help to do the rest! You cannot give more than 100%, yet if we are not thinking about being excellent, it is very easy to fall into the, “I will do just enough to get by” mentality. That is being mediocre and not at all what God desires for us! Being mediocre grants mediocre results in life. Do we really want that? Then we must connect with God and allow Him to bring out His Excellence through us.
Mrs Meyer says, “It is very easy to be a mediocre person. All you have to do is make no extra effort of any kind and drift through life making no difference in the world, which will guarantee that you leave no legacy behind when you are gone.” (p105) This is certainly NOT what God wants for His children, and I do hope it is not what we want either. If not, then we must work with God so He can transform us into His Excellent Image.
As we desire this to be our daily quest, Mrs Meyer says, “You will be convicted and convinced…not condemned…but convicted, that there are some areas in your life where you can come up higher and just represent God in a better way.” She always speaks about practical evidence of being excellent, like putting your grocery cart away in the designated spot, instead of leaving it out in the parking lot, where it could potentially roll about, crashing into someone’s car. These may seem like “little things,” yet life is made up of little things, isn’t it?
While some things may seem little, they can point us to a much bigger thing. That is actually the first lesson God taught me when I became His….and He also showed me the bigger lesson of obeying His lead. It’s a longer story than I can share here, you can view the links below for the whole account, but spoiler alert, the goal God wanted me to hold on to was: “Wherever you go in life, Child, leave it cleaner because you have passed through it.” When we choose to be people of excellence, this is exactly how we leave the lives of those we encounter, better off because they have met us. And if that doesn’t reflect God, I don’t know what does! Let’s continue with this vital habit tomorrow…
