For our occupation, we use the different sets of talents God has imbedded in each of us when we are born. This can involve some interests we have. It can take into consideration things we have learned along the way. And it can mean continuing to hone in on these talents as we work for a living. We all have talents, some more than others, but we all have them. Now whether we develop them or not, is another story all together. Sadly, some people have been told they will never amount to anything. Some have been ridiculed for their aptitudes and shy away from pursuing them. And yet others have been encouraged to follow after their dreams and have become very successful as a result. My Friends, the one thing we will regret in life more than anything else is NOT taking the necessary risks to see what God will do with these talents. Be wise. Get godly counsel. But, holding on to God’s hand, seek ways to enhance these God given talents and see what God does.
Gifts on the other hand, are instilled into our hearts when we become born again. These are used to grow God’s Kingdom, so they center on God. For instance, the ability to have insight into the countless lessons that the Word of God is teaching, for instance, is a gift. Having a passion to share the Good News with others in order to help them know God is another gift, we call that evangelism. There are many different types and some may sound like talents, but the key is that these are used to build the Church. The focus is not making a living, but making God’s Love real here on earth and beyond.
