Trusting God’s Written Word, leads to a more abundant life.
“All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” 1Jn 3:3 NIV
As we trust in the Bible and allow the promises of God to lead our attitudes and actions, we are being purified. We are behaving less and less like our old person because we are acting more and more like Jesus. Remember John 3:30? More of Him and less of us, this is the purification process. We begin to truly desire to glorify God by being more like Jesus. We begin to really want the best for others, even if that means sacrificing ourselves, just like Jesus. We begin to follow the immaculate example of the life of Jesus. Jesus has more and more influence over our thoughts, words and actions, which again is the purification process. As we place our Hope in God’s Written Word, we naturally are placing our Hope in God’s Incarnate Word too, Jesus our Savior and Lord.
The earthly life of Jesus was not easy. He suffered, and suffered more than any human will ever suffer. Abandoned by those around Him. Persecuted by those who opposed Him. Then tortured literally to death on the Cross by those who dismissed Him… and why? He was, and will always be, Immaculate, Pure, Holier than Holy even. So why did He die? So we can place our Hope in Him! So we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves us, that Jesus paid the penalty for our forgiveness and freedom, that we can be united with the Holy Spirit and have Eternal Life…and can start living that Life here. Hope in Jesus is a confident state of being which leads us to be purified so we can be more and more like Him.
