It Is a Promise

Listen to the promise of Jesus:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Jn 10:10 ESV

Jesus came to give us life and an Abundant Life too boot! This is a promise, not just a nice concept. Jesus will help us be victorious in this life, that is His part. Our part is to trust Him. To lean on Him. To work with Him. Remember this is a relationship. God has a part to do that we cannot do. He is our source of peace and joy and the reason we can have a good witness. But then there is a part we must do that God will not do for us. He is not raising spoiled children, although perhaps sometimes we act like it! He wants strong, brave, passionate children who will follow Him wherever He leads, trusting that it is for our good, no matter what it seems like. Our part is to hold on to this Abundant Life and stop allowing this thief to steal, kill and destroy us.

The Abundant Life is filled with challenges, and that is ok. After all, how can we grow if we are never challenged? I love this saying and repeat it often when I find myself in the midst of a trial, “How do I know how brave I am if I am never in a situation that calls me to use courage?” God will more than supply the courage, we must stay connected with Him and receive it. This promise finds its power in our relationship with God, remaining connected to Him in our spirit and soul, then displaying it in our actions.
