For good or for bad, God’s Word will bring about consequences in our lives. Which It brings, simply depends on whether we are connecting with God and following Him, or running away from Him and disobeying Him.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Heb 4:12 NIV
God’s Word is active. As I said, it is not a lifeless book that makes no difference in anyone’s life. It has power to save…or power to condemn. In the Gospel of John, the Apostle warns, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” (Jn 3:18) The Bible is the testimony of God’s amazing Love and Grace towards the humans He created. It speaks about how we have strayed far from our original design. We became selfish, sought after sin and now experience the result of death, being separated from God, the Giver of Life.
But praise God, His Plan does not stop there. His beautiful Love continues to unfold as our Savior is sent to rescue us. All that is left for the lost to do is allow themselves to be found. That is, we must choose to believe we are lost and hopeless apart from God’s one and only Son. When we believe what God’s Word says, the result of this life-giving Scripture is Eternal Life in Christ…but if the Word of God is dismissed? If it is ignored? If it is denied? Then we remain in our sinful condition where eternal death is our only option. This shows our desperate need for Salvation.
Yet even after we have been saved, sealed in the gift of the Holy Spirit forevermore, we can still experience death-like symptoms if we are not giving God’s Word importance in our lives. Things like depression, confusion, frustration, bitterness, anger, anxiety…need I go on? These death symptoms will rule over our lives instead of Jesus Who is supposed to now be our Lord! This is why it is so important for us to believe and understand that God’s Word has the power to transform any life. And one way His Word does this is by being sharper than any double-edged sword…more tomorrow.
