Today we will begin with Book Three of these devotionals called The Chosen 40 Days With Jesus. While Book One introduced us to Jesus through the eyes of some of His disciples and Book Two focused on the question of what it really means to follow Jesus, Book Three goes deeper into being His disciple in a world that is becoming increasingly hostile towards Christianity. The authors say, “Jesus doesn’t want passive followers. On the contrary, He wants us to pursue Him, to seek understanding, to pray for more faith, to know and hold fast to what is true and to reject what isn’t, to obey God’s Word, and to persevere through hard things, of which there are many. Jesus wants followers who will passionately pursue Him to the ends of the earth.” (p12)
Oh my, this topic is my passion! To help us follow Jesus more closely, as we fall in love with Him more deeply! Making Jesus the center of our every day lives is what it means to be a follower of Christ. While being a sincere believer will grant us Heaven, it is only as we mature to become His followers that the gift of Salvation becomes so real to us, and hopefully, to those around us also. As we live love- in, with and through God- we will display His Character more and more, which means we will have more and more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (see Gal 5:22-23) which makes this life more amazing, as we await Eternity with God and His Forever Family. Let’s all make a wholehearted commitment to get serious about, not just believing in, but also following our Savior.
