“Prayers for the Prodigals” is much more than simply a resource of prayers we can use to bring our children into God’s Presence. As I mentioned yesterday, Mr Banks uses Bible verses throughout the 90 different prayers which can serve to connects our heart to that of God’s. As many people say, praying God’s Word back to Him can be very powerful. But I caution us here: it is neither the words we say nor the way we say them that makes this powerful. It is only our God alone who hears our heartfelt prayers that makes them powerful. And again I say, because this is the whole point to prayer, the power comes in connecting us, His children, with God and God’s Will. Scripture, of course, is God’s Word so as we use it to express our own heart’s desires, God not only hears, but acts on our prayers too. Again this is not some type of magic formula, “If I pray these words to God He will do whatever I want Him to do!” Please never think that! Praying to God, and using Bible verses in our prayers, deepens our relationship with God and helps His power flow to, and then through us because it reveals to us God’s desires.
The truth is, when we pray to God, pouring out our heart to Him, we are really aware of the fact that His Presence is in and around us. We become aware that God is real and really listening to us. There becomes this intimate moment between our Father and us, His children, that stirs our Faith in our loving God. And as we add Scripture, we know we are praying words that God Himself accepts as truth, so we can have a greater level of confidence that God will also act on our prayers. Now this does not mean we will not still have to wait on God’s Timing. This also does not mean we will have everything exactly the way we think it should be, as always, we must trust in God’s Plan. Again the point is, as we pray God’s Words back to Him, we can have confidence that God is working on the answer, and the right answer, to our prayers. This, of course, includes those we pray over our children. That’s why this book can be so very powerful.
