Take a Moment

How awesome is this verse?

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Rev 21:4 NIV

I do hope this verse fills you will joy. The future for those of us who belong to God, is incredible beyond our understanding, and it is so sweet to get a sampling, here, of how amazing Heaven will be. I know I am excited and awed when I go through just one day where there aren’t any conflicts in my life. Imagine an eternity of that, where we will simply be doing what we always should have been doing, loving one another the way Jesus loves us. As I started saying yesterday, the truth is, by God’s Grace, we can taste that kind of glory here already, if…if we live this New Life Jesus has already given us. If we will do what we teach our children to do, we can have a life with fewer and fewer difficulties. What is that? Stop and count to ten before you say or do anything! Taking a moment to connect with God, and check ourselves first, is one of the best ways to keep from inviting problems into our days.

What does this look like? Here’s an example: when I worked in the pharmacy, there was a time when I was all alone in the department and I saw a woman coming straight at me. She did not look happy. She did not look like she even wanted to be there. Completely wrapped up in whatever unpleasant thing that was going on in her life, with her head down, not even acknowledging me, she told me her name so she could pick up her prescription. That dismissal would have triggered me in the past, but by God’s Grace, I was abiding in Jesus that day, so I let it go. I took a moment, prayed for this woman, and then I “just happened” to spot her pretty opal necklace. I could sense God nudging me to say something about it to her. A little hesitantly I simply said, “Wow, that’s a really pretty necklace.” She seemed to come back from wherever it was, and grabbed hold of the gem…then what I saw was like a beautiful miracle. I could see her mind recalling something about this piece of jewelry, and she broke out into a smile. She looked up at me and said, “Thank you.” She paid for her Rx and then went away still smiling. Had I not taken that moment, had I been in a MMI mode and gotten rude with her, would she have tasted a piece of Heaven that day? Would I have? Sharing a small morsel of this New Life really is as simple as that.
