Only One Way, my Friends…
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Jn 14:6 NIV
There are still so many people who claim to be Christians who believe, falsely mind you, that everyone will get into heaven somehow. First, some still think that they are good enough to get to Heaven on their own. Then, some claim that, if God is Love, then He would never allow someone to go to hell. Or also, some think that they, themselves, can pay their sin debt, all by themselves, when they leave here and go to purgatory. Allow me to briefly refute all of these.
1- Good enough. What does that even mean? Does it indicate that you only need to have done more good things than bad things? I mean on a scale of 1 to 100%, where do you have to fall in order to be considered “good”? (you might want to read Mt 10:18) I will say it again, “good people” do not go to Heaven, only holy people do, and according to this verse, there is only One Way to become holy. (1Pe 1:16)
2- God is Love. Praise God that He is Love, or you and me would be done for! But Love would not be very loving if He ignored all the evil in someone. God loves everyone, for sure, but not everyone will choose to receive His Love, much less try to return some of it back to Him! It makes no sense that we humans will hold a grudge against others who have hurt us, but we expect a Loving God to overlook it all. Good News is He will do that IF we come to the Father through Jesus, Who already paid the heavy price for all our sin. Is that not loving enough? (Ro 6:23)
3- Purgatory…the very word makes me want to vomit! What an insult to our Jesus Who surrendered His Life to fully pay our sin debt! Please understand, even if this concept was Biblical, which it is not, we are all born with a sinful, dead spirit. How can any of us, who are dead in our transgressions, bring life to ourselves? We need a Savior and praise God He has provided the only One. (Dan 12:2 & Mt 25:46)
The Good News is so very GOOD because the bad news is so very bad. You and I cannot do one thing to be able to enter Heaven on our own…this is why Jesus came.
