The Morning “Do”

Mr Keller talks about the three sources of water sheep are able to use to satisfy their thirst. They are dew on the grass, deep wells, or springs and streams.

First, let’s talk about the dew. He says the sheep would get up early in the morning to feast on the grass which was heavy with dew. After eating to their satisfaction, this habit would help them be able to find rest for a good portion of the rest of the day. The symbolism? We too must make a habit of coming to the Lord first thing in the morning, feasting in His Presence and His Word. This quiet time we spend with God should give us all we need to rest in Him for the remainder of the day.

As we read the Bible, pray for our needs and that of others, unburden our confusion and anxieties, or just spend some time thanking God for all the good He has brought into our lives…however we spend this precious time with God, it will satisfy our thirst for Him in our day. The Holy Spirit will bring to mind ideas which we can use to make our day go smoother. He will remove any unforgiveness we may have against others, so we may have more peace throughout the day. He will place on our hearts things we must do, people we should call, situations we could let go of, and so on and so on. I hope you get the idea. Because we choose to spend those first moments of our day with God, we will be more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit within. Then He will bring His Peace to us as He guides our day. When we seek God first thing in the morning, we can rest, the rest of the day.
