Hi Friends, Diane here. We are God’s and because of this wonderful truth, we have overcome the enemies. John here is talking about the spirit of the antichrist, that is anyone, seen and unseen, that are against God and His Plan for the Salvation of Humanity. These could be false prophets or the evil one himself, but whoever they are, we need not fear them. Why? Because as God’s children, we “have overcome them.” Did you notice the past tense in this verse? It does not say will might overcome them, some time in the distant future, when our time here is done…perhaps, maybe. No, my Friends! We HAVE OVERCOME them.
In Christ, you and I have the power and authority to continue to live a life full of victory over the enemy, because he lost all that when Jesus surrendered Himself to the Father for our sake. God had originally given mankind this power and authority, but they handed all that over to the deceptive serpent. We lost the power to say NO to sin. We lost the authority to control ourselves and not be slaves to the Flesh. We became separated from the Giver of Life, and death is what we have come to know. But no more! In Christ we have life and have it to the overflow (Jn 10:10)…or we can, if…if we receive and guard the power and authority Jesus has restored to us. So what does a life of the overcomer look like?
