Which Do We Love?

Words are powerful and they can either bring life or carry death…

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Pr 18:21 BSB

Hi Friends, Diane here. What do we do with this phrase, “those who love it”? I mean who loves death, right? Yet let me ask you: have you ever been with someone who loves to talk about negative things? Controversies excite them. Quarreling makes them feel important. Speaking about all that has gone wrong in their lives is their focus. And let’s stop a moment to see if that “someone” is you and me! The truth is, sadly, we humans do love to speak about death topics. Many of us would rather talk about what hurts us instead of things that help us, what divides us rather than what unites us…you get the idea.

We love speaking about death. This is a sad reality from The Downfall. Separated from Life, death became our go to. Can we admit this about ourselves? Do you sit with others and talk about all your aches and pains only? Do you focus on the one thing that went wrong in your day instead of seeing God’s Grace in the midst of everything that went right? Listen, I am right there with you! I am still learning this too…but if we will not admit that we “love” death, will we change?

We must learn to pay attention to what we say, My Friends, because if we don’t, we won’t know what we love. We will just mindlessly continue to repeat what we have always said before…and if it is not life, then we must not be surprised when our life does not seem fulfilling and rewarding. Death is all about MMI and it destroys our ability to love and be loved. Life is all about God and His righteousness and it enhances our ability to love and be loved. So which will we choose to love? Let’s pay attention to our words today, both our inner words, as well as those we speak out loud.
