Choose the Harder Path

We have been talking for the last couple of weeks about the power given to us by God, through our union with the Holy Spirit, because of the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf, to bring healing to our mental and emotional health. He guides us towards healing by helping us pay attention to our thoughts, checking our emotions and understanding the why’s behind our will. The more we grasp the reality that this soul thing finds its root in our spirit, the more we can let go of our old ways of thinking, feeling and choosing, and the more we can move towards the healing we desire.

This may sound counter-intuitive but, it is actually an easier path for us to think negative, self-defeating thoughts. Easier for us to lose control of our emotions. And easier for us to want things that are not good for us in the longterm. Why? Because it comes naturally to our fallen and broken nature. But in Christ we are New Creations! He gives us the power to choose the hard path instead. The hard path is to deny ourselves, to pick up our cross and to follow Jesus. (Luke 9:23)

When we think negative thoughts, it is hard to just STOP, turn to Him and allow Him to renew our minds. When we feel frustrated and bitter and angry and depressed etc, it is hard to just STOP, turn to Him and let Him adjust our emotions. When we want things that are no good for us, it is hard to just STOP, turn to Him and trust Him to move us in a way that will benefit us. But this harder path is the best for us because it is the one that leads us to the life we really want.

Choose the harder path because that is what will lead us to God and give us that Abundant Life filled to the overflow with peace and joy and righteousness that our hearts long to have, enjoy and share. It is what we were created for, so nothing less will fulfill us.

Today’s tip: choose the harder path
