Elimination Diets Can Eliminate Meds

This week I want to talk about some ways we can find and fix the root cause of some health issues we may be experiencing. Each day I will present a problem, then talk about ways to find and fix that problem. Today, let’s start with some of the more common complaints.

Problem: conditions like allergies and gut issues like bloating, gas, as well as illnesses such as high blood pressure, autoimmune disease, or diabetes too

Find and Fix: Elimination diets

As we said, because so many foods are adulterated, they can be causing all sorts of negative health conditions. With the help of a doctor, such as an allergist or dietitian, we can implement an Elimination Diet so we can pinpoint any foods that may be causing and/or contributing to the discomfort and illnesses we experience. Some of the foods that are the usual culprits include nuts, corn, soy, dairy, citrus fruits, nightshade vegetables like tomatoes or eggplant, wheat, foods containing gluten, pork, eggs and seafood. So by taking out these sensitive foods for 2-3 weeks, then slowly reintroducing one at a time, we can figure out what might be causing us harm. This is kind of like when parents first start to give their infants “big people foods.” We introduce one food at a time, waiting at least three days in between, and see if the baby can tolerate the food. We do something similar with this Elimination Diet.

For instance, if we eliminate dairy for a couple of weeks, then bring back, say cheese, if we immediately note any negative affects to our health again, then that food might be a trigger for our health condition. Obviously, the quick fix would be to stop eating dairy and substitute it with the many options now available on the market.

There are so many good articles about this online, but again remember to only do this with a doctor’s supervision. This may be a good place to start discovering what is the root cause of many health problems, so they can be fixed and you may be able to get rid of any medications you are taking.
