God’s Word is alive and active, to help us live the most satisfying life here, as we look forward to the perfect life hereafter.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Heb 4:12 NIV
What does it mean that God’s Word is alive? Sadly, there are way too many people, those who call themselves Christians too I’m afraid, that do not believe the Bible is relevant to their lives today. Either they think it is only a group of manmade stories from the ancient days or they think those precious words bear no weight or value in whatever they are going through right here today. How wrong both groups are, my Friends! One of the things we must understand is that the Bible is an narration centered on a Loving Creator Who is always reaching out to His creation, specifically the crown of creation, us humans. And we humans continue to be humans.
From generation to generation, we all have the same struggles. We all have the same concerns. And we all have the same Solution too. For instance, the problems Adam and Eve had in the Garden, are still the problems most wedded couples encounter today. This combat for position and power are as real to us now as it was to all the couples of the Bible. Which one of us has not wanted our way in this relationship only to get disappointed by our spouse? Nothing has changed with the human nature since the beginning of Time…nothing that is until the Word of God became Incarnate.
But here in this passage we are talking about God’s Written Word and the power it has to reveal our brokenness, as well as the promises available to the believer to endure these challenges with the help of God. Alive means that the Bible will indeed have an effect, it will make something happen, it will bring about real, tangible results in our lives…but a caution here because, the effect God’s Word produces can be either for good, if It is followed, or for evil if It is not.
