Needed for Life

I want to talk about dehydration today because it is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. My Angel Pie, Rebecca, suffered with dehydration that went undiagnosed for way too long and it caused devastating damage to her body and to her life. Now her situation was unique, of course, because she had a condition called Cerebral Salt Wasting as a result of where the cancer had been and a subarachnoid hemorrhage that had happened during her initial treatments. The dehydration she had came from this illness where she lost, not only water, but sodium along with it. The quick drop in sodium levels cause seizures that would put her into a comatose state for 3 to 5 days at a time. This happened literally dozens of times and what made it doubly heartbreaking is that, any progress she would make when she was not in the hospital, like starting to walk with a walker for instance, would quickly regress and not be able to do it anymore. It was like she would start to come back, then have these episodes and quickly fade away again. It was horrific to watch, I cannot imagine how she felt.

Water is vital for our lives. It is not only important to be nutritionally sound, but also well hydrated. I will share some surprising signs of dehydration with you tomorrow. Rebecca could not control the amount of fluids that were in her body, but we can. Please make it a priority to drink your water.
