Real Source of Power

Sometimes when we start something new, we have to make things as simple as possible. This is how God helps us begin to take in His Word.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Ps 119:105 ESV

I can remember saying to God, “Lord, there is no way I will ever be able to memorize any of Your Word!” And so being the gentle Father He is, God gave me this little verse as my first try at it. Fast forward 22 years later and I have not only memorized a lot of it, either verbatim or at least the general idea, but I also have the privilege of teaching it too.

The Bible is not only a Love Letter from our God and Creator to His people, but it is the number one source of power we have in this challenging world. Why? Because it connects us with God. Because it reveals His Immaculate Character. Because it speaks about a love so deep, you and I will never know the depths of it this side of Heaven, and probably not the other side either! God’s Word, gives us helpful examples of what to do and what not to do. It helps us learn from other humans who have been there and done that. It helps us remember we are not alone, we are well loved, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us…you know, what we have been talking about all year long…and so, so much more!

God’s Word is filled to the brim and overflowing with so many incredible nuggets of wisdom that will empower us to live the Abundant Life He created us to live. Right in the middle of Scripture is Psalm 119 which is the longest chapter in the Bible, and that is appropriate because it is all about the Bible. I hope you will carve out some time this week to sit with this lovely Psalm and bask in the glow of how amazing the Bible really is. It is our real source of power in this life because it is God’s Word.
