Today I’d like to share a great example I read about how our life in Christ often goes. It is like we are in a dark parking lot, standing directly under a street light. As it shines down upon us, we can see everything around us and we feel safe…but the moment we start to walk away from that light, the moment we move away in any direction, is the moment we begin to notice the darkness around us. We begin to get confused, frustrated, irritated, scared, fill in the blank…and sadly, we often blame the street light even though it has not moved, but we have!
Jesus is our Light and when we seek and follow Him, we stay under His illumination and we feel like everything will be alright, even when we have questions. Standing in the stream of His Love and Grace, we can have the confidence to live life to the full…but if we begin to move away from Him, if we lower our eyes onto the things of this world, focusing on our own strength and resources, well things begin to look a whole lot different…and sadly, we often blame God when He has not forsaken us, but it is we who have turned away from Him!
As I said last week, we must come, stay and abide in Christ in order to remain in His Light where we can be safe, no matter what happens. As we do this, the darkness of mental and emotional health issues will also remain much lighter, more manageable, less invasive and less debilitating. We can choose to stay under the Light and move towards Life or turn away from Jesus and wander towards death…more tomorrow
