While I lovingly call Dr Stanley, “Grandpa Charlie” because his wisdom has been such a powerful tool from God in my life, and I call Joyce Meyer, “Mama Joyce” because she has taught me so many practical applications of God’s Word, I like to think of Pastor Max Lucado as my spiritual Dad. He has this wonderful way of making the complex truths of the Bible so simple to understand…and yet his words are just as profound. If we really make the time to think about what he is saying, his insight can help us surrender deeper into God and live freer because of it. So this month where we celebrate fathers everywhere, I am going to talk about my favorite book from Daddy Lucado. It’s full name is: “It’s Not About Me- Rescue from the Life We Thought Would Make Us Happy”.
This is the lie the enemy works effortlessly to convince every human of: “If you get what you want, then you will be happy.” The truth is, we were created by God FOR God, and so it is only as we let MMI go that we really discover the fulfilling life we were always meant to have, enjoy and share. Have you noticed I tend to say those three things when talking about the Abundant Life a lot? You see, only IN Christ, when we surrender to Him as Lord and Savior, do we have Life…this is the wonderful life filled to the overflow with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, that God designed for us to have. But it is only as we grow into this New Identity, being the children of God instead of living for MMI, that we can truly enjoy Life. But then we are not to stop there, we must share this powerful Life with those around us. These are what I call the “Three Calls of God: Salvation, so we can have Life, Sanctification, so we can enjoy it, and Service so we can share this it.” (see links below for more) And it is only when we get it through our thick and stubborn skulls that it’s not about “me” that we begin to truly live. Ready for a deeper level of this amazing truth? Then let’s dive into Mr Lucado’s book and this truth that will set us free….
