Allow your WHO to determine your DO. Let your New Identity cause you to behave New.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Pr 4:23 NIV
Hi Friends, Diane here. There are so many of us Christians who continue to suffer with one addiction or another. Yet have we been set free or not? If we will trust WHO God says we are, then we are, NOW, already set free from all those flaws and weaknesses that keep trying to drag us back down into that sinful pit. To live a fully free life from sin and our old, MMI, Prideful Person we used to be, we must know that we are already free from it. This requires growth because, once again, we are children. Can you see how vital Sanctification, growing, learning and maturing in Christ, is if we truly want the Abundant Life? Never forget how much the enemy will fight us from growing because he does not want us to act like we are already free from the power of sin. If he lost us to Christ, he certainly does not want to lose anyone else because of us!
While there are countless types of addictions, the core of each one is the same, we are believing a lie. Even after we have been given this New Identity in Christ, if we continue to believe the lie that we are not worthy of God’s Love, we will continue to be subject to these addictions. But this is no longer WHO we are. It is only because God says we are worthy that we are worthy. It is not what we DO, but WHO we are that gives us worth. When we believe that God calls us worthy, then in Him, we have the power to break any addiction. I have heard so many people say things like, “I had been a smoker for decades, but then I turned to Jesus and was instantly set free from the craving to smoke.” God is still in the miracle making business, My Friends! But whether your freedom is instant or whether it takes time, effort and intentionality on your part, it all begins in the heart, knowing WHO you are in Christ…because what you DO flows from WHO you are.
